I took these photos from both sides of Broadway, near Liberty Street fairly early
that morning. Most of the remnants of the WTC "skeletons" had been just taken
down by then. In a number of the photos, you can see the damage done to the
buildings across the site of what was once the World Trade Center — closer to the
Hudson River. On the east side of the site (where I took these pictures on that
freezing morning), a large dark green tarp was put up to block the actual
recovery work from view.

This is One Liberty Plaza, the building that was supposedly on the verge of collapsing in the days after the attack. Fortunately, it's still standing and is said to be structurally sound.

I don't know who Bonnie Smithwick was, but someone loved her and honored her memory. In my own small way, I just wanted to help remember her and all the other victims. We can't ever let them be nameless, faceless statistics.
